CREATIVE INFLUENCES WEEK 29 - WHO’S THAT? BROWN! GOOD GOOD, IT’S A RAID!
With 4 wives and plenty of time in the joint for drugs, alcohol, guns and domestic disputes, James Brown had seen more action and drama than an HBO series, but that isn’t the focus.
The focus is the funk, cause this is about the influence and we want the funk and we’ve gotta have that funk and soul brother no. 1 is the godfather of that funk. Surrounded by talent and the horniest of horns, Mr Dynamite ran a tight ship, giving rise to thundercats like Fred Wesley, Maceo Parker and Bootsy Collins. Sliding around on those greased shoes with those moves that lay the foundation to the future of robotics, JB would conduct his band and his dancers. Every finger point, slide and spin had purpose and if you missed it or weren’t on time there we penalties - Maceo knew; “You gotta be on time. You gotta have your uniform. Your stuff’s got to be intact”
JB was the hardest working man in show business and as far as creative influences go, he really is the the legal guardian to the children of soul. After 4 decades of influence through funk, soul, disco, hip hop, pop and dance, all the new bags are based on the design of papa’s original. JB’s death on Christmas day really was the big payback.
Bring on the juice.
Make me Sweat
“I only got seventh-grade education, but I have a doctorate in funk, and I like to put that to good use.”
SUMMER’S END OR JUST THE BEGINNING?
Did you know that Halloween is said to be linked to the British Isles and means summer’s end? That explains the bonfires to combat the emergence of the season of mist and the apple bobbing for the harvest of the mellow fruitfulness.
This also makes sense as to why it’s not really celebrated down under as the light pours down the golden west and on the balmy zephyrs tranquil rest.
Oh! how I love, on a fair summer’s eve.
